Parish Life

A parish serving
university students

St. Lawrence Newman Center is made up of resident parishioners who live, work, and raise their families in the area, and the University of Minnesota community. Our resident and student parishioners all have a unique opportunity to make disciples of Jesus as a university Catholic church. They offer an example of the blessing that comes from living the faith, raising a family in faith, and growing spiritually through a personal relationship with Christ.

Parish Groups

Young Adult Group

Gopher Catholic Young Adults is a community of men and women ages 22–32 who desire to grow deeper in faith, friendship, and mission. Rooted in the Eucharist, we gather regularly for Mass, fellowship, and intentional small groups that foster prayer, accountability, and authentic Catholic living.

We meet on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. during the school year. Young Adult Group nights start with Mass at 7:30 (we join the undergraduate student Mass) and then we head upstairs to Room B for a talk and social.

Builders Men’s Ministry

Builders is for men who are grad students, young adults, and parishioners to build a spiritual fraternity in the parish that supports and encourages men to “Stand in the Breach” as fathers to our families, brothers to one another, and as sons of our Father.

We have monthly intergenerational men's gatherings that foster true Brotherhood.

Contact Br. Gary Davis to get involved.

We are a biblically focused faith formation group for all women of the parish.

Women Growing in Faith will begin their monthly summer series on Monday, May 18th, at 6:30 in the Gathering Space.

We will study Prayer with the Archdiocesan Synod materials. No preparation necessary. Join us for the Mondays that work for you, including May 18, June 15, July 20, and August 17.

Women Growing in Faith

Women’s Group

The St. Lawrence Women's Group is an open group of women of all ages, talents, ideas, and abilities. It was formed in the late 1940s when the building was an elementary school. Many generations of families, parishioners, and students have been a part of this great legacy and history at St. Lawrence Catholic Church and Newman Center.

Seven Sister’s Apostolate

The Seven Sisters Apostolate began in the Twin Cities in 2011 with seven groups of women praying for their pastors weekly (with each woman committing to a separate day of the week), and has since spread widely.  Since Fr. Jake was assigned here in 2019, we've been praying for him every day.
