Newman Scholars
A Catholic Formation Program by Gopher Catholic and Anselm House
Gopher Catholic has partnered with Anselm House (a center for Christian thought at the University of Minnesota) to offer UMN students a 2 or 3-year program of comprehensive spiritual, intellectual, and moral formation, culminating in a Certificate in Integral Catholic Leadership or a Certificate in Catholic Formation. Students aiming to complete a Certificate are called Newman Scholars.
The Newman Scholars program allows students to attend a premier, public research university, while belonging to a community of disciples and receiving personalized formation in the Catholic faith.

Application Process
Both incoming and current UMN students can begin the application process towards a Certificate. Students must apply separately and be admitted to both (1) Anselm House’s Fellows Program and (2) Gopher Catholic’s residential formation program. Applicants must therefore complete the following two steps:
-

1) Apply to the AH Fellows Program
To apply to the Anselm House Fellows Program, please complete the online application with Anselm House and indicate your desire to be involved in the fellows program as a Newman Scholar.
-

2) Apply to the GC Residential Program
As a preliminary step, incoming and current students must fill out the Newman Scholars Interest Form. Students should apply to the Gopher Catholic Residential Program during the fall of their freshman or sophomore year.
-

3 ) Admisson to Newman Scholars
Students admitted to both the Anselm House Fellows Program and the Gopher Catholic residential formation program (typically in their second or third year at the UMN) are known as Newman Scholars.
