Music Ministry
Who We Are
St. Lawrence Catholic Church and Newman Center’s music program welcomes singers and instrumentalists to share their talents for the beautification of the Holy Mass. We seek passionate individuals of all experience levels to join a welcoming, vibrant, and talent-filled Parish and school community.
Starting this fall semester, we hope to create music at Mass that welcomes and appeals to a variety of liturgical backgrounds and styles. As such, each Sunday Mass will have a different musical “feel” or approach.
Below is a brief description of each of the regular Sunday liturgies
throughout the school year
-
In many ways, this will be the most “traditional” of our Sunday Masses, musically speaking. The music will include traditional hymns, well-known Mass settings, both English and Latin chant, and simple choral anthems. We would love to have a “Schola” or small choir to perform these duties. Instruments will of course also play a role in this service, including a predominant combination of both organ and piano., Sunday 10:30 AM. In some ways, this Mass can be viewed as a musical mixture or coherent “hybrid” of traditional music and current praise and worship styles. It will include a combination of traditional and more contemporary hymns, well-known Mass settings, and, as appropriate, choral music of multiple styles. We would love to have a choir to help lead these elements, as well as instrumentalists.

This Mass will include some newer sacred music that is in the praise and worship style. However, it will maintain some coherence with the morning masses – it will share some of the hymnody and often the Mass settings in common with 8:30 and 10:30. This mass is open to a variety of instruments but builds around singers, keyboard, and guitar.
